Seals Blog - Summer 2018
Seals Class have enjoyed their Easter holiday after a short but busy half term. We enjoyed our topic on shape, looking at 2D and 3D shapes, letter shapes and shapes in the environment around us.
We also prepared for the Carnival event at the Brewhouse which 5 children from our class were able to go to. We all made carnival costumes in DT and in music we listened to carnival music, playing and dancing along to it. We listened to different carnival rhythms and tried to imitate them. We had a lot of fun.
At the Brewhouse we practised the carnival dance with children from other local schools on the stage and then did a carnival procession around the Brewhouse for our audience. The audience then came into the theatre and we performed our dance for them.
We have enjoyed trips out on the minibus on Thursdays visiting local supermarkets to buy food for our snacks and ingredients for cooking activities. As part of our Geography learning we drove around places in our local area we could recognise such as Burton Station, Burton Albion Football ground and Amerton Farm.
Our topic this half term is ‘Sound’. We will be thinking about and listening to lots of different sounds including letter sounds, animal sounds and environmental sounds. We will invent sound effects for our stories and go on listening walks around school. We will make noisy foods such as popcorn and crunchy biscuits in DT. Work in English and Maths will continue to develop our number and counting skills as well as mark making, early writing skills and communication. On Thursday mornings we will go out either on the minibus or on foot to support our learning and develop social skills in the community.
We continue to have swimming and PE on Mondays and go to the library on Fridays to share a book and to choose a book to take home. As the weather gets warmer, please send in a named water bottle for your child so that they can have a drink whenever they need one.
We are looking forward to working hard and enjoying our learning this half term!
