Penguins January 2020 Blog Update
We all had a great half term and couldn’t believe how fast it went. We were very lucky to be invited to the Holiday Inn for a Christmas party which we all enjoyed, as well as our Christmas visit to Drayton Manor.
We all joined in decorating the classroom for Christmas and were excited to have a big tree. As part of our Christmas activities we learnt about the Nativity story and took part in the whole school Christmas play.
Through our play and exploration we honed our fine motor skills by cutting out strips of paper for garlands, pinching bits of glitter for our creations and rolling out dough for our salt dough tree decorations. We learnt about measuring and ‘more’ and ‘less’ when we made our mince pies. We had the opportunity to improve our mark making by writing Christmas cards.
This terms topic is ‘Can we explore it?’ As part of this topic, we will be reading ‘Going on a Bear Hunt’ and ‘Whatever Next?’ We will be building structures with boxes and exploring holes and spaces and playing hide and seek! We will be digging in our mud pit and in the sand to see where we can go.
In Maths we will continue to develop our awareness of number through counting songs and practical work throughout all of the sessions and counting lots of the things we are doing in our play such as how many scoops it takes to fill up our buckets.
In literacy we are going to be experimenting with making marks in a range of media including melted chocolate, cornflour and jelly as well as pens, crayons and big paintbrushes outside.
