Jellyfish - Spring Term 1 Update
Welcome back, we hope you have had a great Christmas and are looking forward to 2019.
Last year was a busy time for Jellyfish with new class members settling in and then the excitement of Christmas and all of the lovely activities.
Our Autumn topic was Festivals and Celebrations. We took part in the Christingle Festival at the local church, we all painted poppies and helped to make a display to remember all our heroes. Diwali was celebrated with lots of bright lights and colourful fabrics. Our Christmas activities included making mincemeat, we used shopping lists to buy the ingredients, which we explored, feeling smelling, listening to the sounds they made when we felt them and some of us tasted them. We hope you enjoyed it, it will keep for a long time if stored in a cool dark place. We also made Christmas cards and decorations and managed to rehearse for our wonderful Christmas concert.
This term our Topic is “The World is full of colour” we have several sensory stories “What makes a rainbow” “Red Rockets and Rainbow Jelly” and “A colour of His Own” In Maths we will be using colour as a theme exploring 1 and lots, putting things in and taking things out (we are good at this one!) building and stacking, sorting, matching and making sets and patterns. We will once again incorporate science into our weekly cookery lesson, so far we have made iced biscuits observing changes when we added food colouring to icing sugar. We have got different coloured jelly to make and will be buying ingredients for future recipes when we go out shopping. We have picked a colour a week and you will probably be able to guess what it is after Mondays art lesson!!!! We are going to be learning a Makaton sign for a different colour every week until we make a rainbow.
We are learning whilst having fun and we may get messy!!!!
